Here’s what you need:
2/3 cup Isopropyl alcohol 70 - 91% (rubbing alcohol) or you can use witch hazel or Vodka (Everclear is a good one but my hubby said people were coming in all day to get it since the can't find alcohol or hand sanitizer so it could be out soon in liquor stores too. Some people prefer using witch hazel or even vodka in place of the 91% alcohol. Vodka has to be at least 153 proof or more to work.
1/3 cup aloe vera gel Click here for Aloe Vera Gel
(The rubbing alcohol sanitizes your hands while the aloe vera moisturizes them)
Essential oil in your choice of fragrance (optional) Tea Tree
For the essential oil, tea tree is fantastic. It’s a great antiseptic and antibacterial. It does not smell that great but it is the best. Cinnamon is another great antiseptic and it’s a good little wake-me-up. You’ll want about 10-12 drops or so each. And tea tree oil has been proven time and time again to kill viruses, bacteria, mold, and fungi. It’s also a natural anti-inflammatory! I have used it to brush my teeth for a long time and to disinfect my toothbrush.
5 drops vitamin E oil (optional, makes your hands soft)
A small or medium mixing bowl
A spoon
An empty container, such as a 3-ounce container from a travel toiletries kit
A small piece of masking tape for labeling
Here’s how to make it:
In a mixing bowl, stir Isopropyl alcohol and aloe vera gel together until well blended.
Add 8-10 drops of scented essential oil (optional)
Stir til blended.
Pour the homemade hand sanitizer into an empty container, seal and label.
Note: This recipe creates hand sanitizer that contains 65% alcohol, above the 60% alcohol content that the CDC recommends.
Of course, hand sanitizer is the second-best way to keep you germ-free. The No. 1 way, according to the CDC, is to properly wash your hands.
Mix everything together well -- either stir by hand on blend on high for 90 seconds -- pour into your bottles and you’re good to go. Label your bottles.
When you’re making this hand sanitizer, you can either use vodka or alcohol-free witch hazel to help dilute the essential oils into the mixture. Both vodka and witch hazel have natural anti-microbial properties although I believe the alcohol is better at killing all the germs.
MAKE YOUR OWN HAND WIPES
You can also make hand wipes by soaking either paper towels (disposable) or cloth squares (can be washed) in the solution and then wring out slightly and store in a zip lock bag for a couple of days. Adding tea tree oil adds extra protection from the germs.
Health experts say the best defense against coronavirus is to wash your hands often. Sounds easy enough, right? But you’d be surprised how many people wash their hands incorrectly.

CLEANING DISINFECTING WITH 91% ALCOHOL
Finally, you want to disinfect surfaces of your home, places that get touched alot. If you cant find sanitizing wipes or make them, you can use plain rubbing alcohol, or even vodka in a pinch. Just put a sprayer in the bottle of alcohol of your choice OVER 60%. I have used this for years because I do not use any toxic cleaning products. And its cheaper.
Don't forget to clean your Cell Phones and Land line Phones (if you have one) daily. Johns was not good... And also Remotes.
It’s important to understand the difference between cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing. Cleaning simply removes dirt and debris. It removes germs but doesn’t kill them. Disinfecting kills germs, but it does not necessarily clean. “Sanitizing lowers the number of germs to a safe level,” This is more frequently done in public spaces
I know for me I have done most of these things for 13 years when I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and am pesticide free - I threw all pesticides and cleaning supplies in the garbage 13 yrs ago - never drink the tap water among other things.
I am hopeful this will force many to do these things in the future.
